I hope you are all in good health and feeling positive as we cautiously start to return to the new "normal". While the pandemic still continues to cause suffering around the globe, there also have been unexpected gifts and lessons learned from this historic, collective experience of lockdown. We are in the midst of so much change — I encourage you all to keep moving forward with love in your hearts during this uncertain period of transitioning into a new reality. In the spirit of new beginnings and the re-opening of our world, I’ve expanded my own musical horizons and collaborated on a new project that celebrates something I love deeply – dancing!
My new EP, SUSANNAH B Deep House Sessions with j. wells, is a collection of techno-house remixes of songs from my 2018 FAR MORE album. These new versions, I hope, will motivate you to get moving — on the dance floor, in a Tiktok video, in spin class or just walking outside to an upbeat groove. These tunes are definitely a new direction for me — but that’s perfectly post-pandemic, I think, as we all learn to move and groove together in brand new ways.
New York, NY - April 28, 2021 - Susannah B and producer j. wells are set to release three electronic dance club remixes of tracks from Susannah B’s 2018 release Far More as an EP on July 2, with an advance release of the first single on June 18. Members of the media are invited to listen here to the new songs that utilize vintage analog synths, disco tracks, drum machines and more.
In her first collaboration with Brooklyn-based electronic music producer j. wells, singer-songwriter Susannah B explores her lifelong love of dance music with remixes of two covers -- "I Just Want To Celebrate" and "Spirits in the Material World" -- as well as the title track from her hypnotic, chill electronic pop album Far More -- now transformed into the three-song, dance floor-ready EP SUSANNAH B Deep House Sessions with j. wells.
Known for her sultry, ethereal vocals and catchy yet sophisticated singer-songwriter pop, Susannah B has released four albums of her own songs -- heard in films, on MTV, on radio stations across the country, and on the Billboard charts. While Susannah B’s music has always been a little hard to categorize -- she’s been called "chameleonic" and a "powerhouse vocalist" due to her impressive vocal range and stylistic versatility that continually garner rave reviews -- the common denominator in all her work has always been the groove. Even her most recent release, the acclaimed jazz album Girl Gone Wilder!, was inspired by Susannah’s unusual rhythmic approaches to the famed jazz standards penned by midcentury composer Alec Wilder.
I love to dance, and I love the way a good groove can immediately make you want to get up and move," Susannah says. "When I was finishing production on Far More, I knew that I wanted to find a young DJ/producer who could pick up the tempo and remix the songs into club-ready cuts. Lucky for me, j. wells understood exactly where I wanted to take the music."
j. wells is a Brooklyn-based electronic music producer who’s been involved in the techno, house and hip hop scene for several years. A classically trained musician, he is a graduate of New York University in Music Technology and is heavily influenced by the dance music scenes of Berlin, Detroit and New York City. His tracks bring a minimalist, experimental approach and make unique use of vintage synthesizers and analog drums, vinyl cuts and vocal edits.
